SUBCOMMITTEE ON PRIVACY AND CONFIDENTIALITY
Charge
The Subcommittee will monitor major developments in health information
privacy and confidentiality on behalf of the full Committee, identify issues
and opportunities, make recommendations to the full Committee and assist the
Department on implementation of the health information privacy provisions of
P.L. 104-191.
Specifically, the Subcommittee will:
- Identify opportunities and issues in health information privacy and
confidentiality for Committee attention.
- Through public hearings and other means, serve as a forum for the public,
employers, the health industry, the privacy community, Standards Development
Organizations, the research community and State and local government on health
information privacy and confidentiality.
- Based upon public hearings, consultation and analysis, make
recommendations to the full committee and assist the Department on the
implementation of the privacy and confidentially provisions of P.L. 104-191,
with special attention to the development of HHH health information privacy
recommendations to Congress.
- Make recommendations to the full Committee on strategies, including public
information and education efforts, as well as research and development, to
promote the development and adoption of sound health information privacy and
confidentiality policies and practices.
- Monitor the implementation of legislation and regulations.
- Assist the chair in the preparation of testimony and reports to the
Secretary and the Congress.
